University of Michigan program teaches basic theories of business operations
PLYMOUTH, Mich., June 9, 2008 – Aisin World Corp. of America (AWA), a worldwide supplier of automotive components, hosted high school students from Detroit’s Cass Technical High School, Southfield Lathrup High School, and Wayne Memorial High School, Wayne, Mich., as part of MREACH, a program of the University of Michigan Ross School of Business. The event took place on Thursday, May 22, at AWA headquarters in Plymouth, Mich.
MREACH (Michigan Ross School of Business Enriching Academics in Collaboration with High Schools), is a program that provides an action-based learning experience introducing young people to basic theories of business disciplines with special emphasis on accounting as a fundamental building block. AWA’s participation is part of its continuing community outreach program.
“We see this activity as beneficial in a number of ways,” said Don Whitsitt. “It is in keeping with our commitment to reach out to members of our community, making it a better place, and it also provides a foundation for young people who may one day be leaders in our industry.”
Approximately 40, 11th grade students visited AWA, touring the facility and meeting with department leaders to learn the various functions of the company. The tours were followed by a luncheon presentation by Whitsitt and other AWA executives.

Students gather at Aisin's warehouse during a recent tour of the Tier One supplier.
