On behalf of the nearly 8,000 Aisin team members in North America, I would like to express our sincere condolences to the families affected by the devastating tornadoes and floods in the Southern and Midwestern regions of the United States.
The lives of many have been lost or impacted and, while no Aisin facilities or team members were harmed, we feel a sense of responsibility to lend a helping hand.
As a company with deep roots in the United States, Aisin values its role as a good neighbor and good corporate citizen. Therefore, it is my hope that our donation of $25,000 to the ongoing efforts of the American Red Cross will provide some level of aid and comfort to those who need it most.
We thank the American Red Cross for its work here, as we do the International Red Cross for its continuing work in Japan.

I'd like to thank you for the outpouring of concern and support over the past few days regarding the tragic situation we are seeing unfold in Japan. While there have been no reported injuries at AISIN's operations, the lives of many of our colleagues, and their families and friends, have been affected greatly.
I know I speak for all of us at AISIN in North America -- plus thousands of community supporters throughout the U.S., Canada and Mexico -- in extending our heartfelt sympathy to our colleagues in Japan, their families, and all the people there.
Our utmost concern continues to be the safety of our team members and partners, who may be affected in the region. On March 11, 2011, the AISIN Group established an emergency team at AISIN headquarters to monitor the situation and take necessary actions to assist where possible. We, are, of course, in touch daily with our colleagues at Aisin Seiki. Here is an update:
Production
AISIN’s plants in Japan are located far from the epicenter of the earthquake, and did not suffer any substantial damage. However, Aisin does have facilities in the Northern part of Japan in Tohoku, therefore Aisin Seiki has dispatched an advance team to provide support. Toyota and other major customers in Japan have curtailed production and, as a result, AISIN has temporarily stopped production, too. We are monitoring our customer’s actions closely. Manufacturing at our plants in North America continues, although we are curtailing plans for overtime for the time being. Given the uncertainty before us, AWA Sales has established a special task force to monitor supply and is meeting daily to review the situation.
Contributions
AISIN in Japan is pledging support to relief efforts in many ways, including a contribution to the Red Cross of 100 million yen (about $1.25 million) to help people in the affected area. In addition, the Aisin Group in North America will donate $75,000. Many of our associates, team members, dealers, suppliers and friends in North America also want to help. I am not surprised at the outpouring of support from so many in the Aisin family. Your contributions are appreciated, and we suggest they be directed toward the Red Cross (www.redcross.org).
Please keep our extended family in Japan in your thoughts and prayers. Meanwhile, I commit to keep you updated on Aisin Seiki's role in the relief effort, as well as production and operation updates on behalf of Aisin Seiki and its customers.
